COMMON QUESTIONS
This Q&A sheet provides an overview of some of Awesome’s rental conditions. For full conditions please refer to detailed conditions as described in the Rental Agreement. All prices quoted include GST and are quoted in $NZ dollars.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Drivers must be over 18 years of age with at least 2 years experience and must produce a valid driver’s licence - New Zealand, Australian, American, Canadian, or European licences are acceptable all other nationalities must have an International Drivers Licence.
DEPOSIT
A deposit of 10% of total hire cost or minimum of $500 is required to secure your booking.
SECURITY BOND
A security bond of $350 for each hire is required this is refunded in full 21 days after completion of hire providing all traffic infringement or parking fines (if any) have been paid, the vehicle was returned in a clean condition, fuel has been topped up , the vehicle is returned at the agreed time, and toilet emptied. Bond must be paid in cash,eftpos or by credit card, and can not be reduced. Please note that an administration fee of $60 will be charged for each traffic infringement fee or third party damage not reported and paid for paid by the Hirer.
PAYMENT OF HIRE
The balance of hire must be paid in full at the commencement of hire. Hire costs are calculated on per night basis (not 24 hr periods)
CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations received more than 21 days prior to date of reservation deposit will be refunded less $150 administration fee. Cancellations received within 7 to 21 days will incur forfeiture of the $500 deposit. Cancellations within 7 days will incur a further charge. Vehicles returned earlier than the agreed return date will NOT be eligible for a refund.
PICKUP & DROPOFF
The vans can be picked up anytime after 9:00 AM on the day of hire from our depot in Napier. Drop off is up to 4:00 PM on the last day of hire at our depot. Drop off after this time will incur another days hire for every day and a penalty of $50 per day until returned. One way hire is not available at this time. By arrangement we can pick you up and drop you off at airport or bus station.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
Included in the daily hire is Insurance, Unlimited Kilometres, extra drivers, 24/7 roadside assistance, travel maps and 12.5% GST. Airport transfer on pick up and drop off, all necessary kitchen and cooking equipment. Not included is fuel. If the vehicle is diesel then Road User Charges are charged at $48 per 1000 Ks travelled.
INSURANCE
Insurance is included in the daily hire rate. Authorized drivers are indemnified up to a limit of $1,000,000. Insurance cover does not apply to driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or reckless driving. Hirer should read the other exclusions in the rental agreement. NB: insurance does not cover hirer’s personal property. An excess is held in the form of a bond and covers and covers any single accident. The driver must be the person nominated on the rental agreement.
EXCESS
Standard option 1: For drivers over 25, the hirer is responsible for the first $ 800 (the excess) for any single accident. For drivers 21 to 24 years of age at the time of hire, the excess is $1,500. For drivers 18 to 20 years of age at the time of hire, the excess is $1,900
The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time each accident is reported. The excess will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of damages from any third party (please be aware that this can take several months).
MINOR DAMAGE
For minor damage to a vehicle you will not lose your excess; we agree on a price that will cover the cost to repair the vehicle. Usually this can be from $100 depending on the damage incurred.
INSURANCE EXCESS REDUCTION
Drivers 25 years and over:
Option - excess can be reduced to $350 for a daily fee of $10 ( Reduced to $1 day for hires over 60 days)
Drivers 21 to 24 years at time of hire:
Option 1 – excess can be reduced to $1,000 at a cost of $10 per day
Option 2 – Excess can be reduced to $350 at a cost of $ 15 per day
Drivers 18 to 20 years at time of hire:
Excess can be reduced to $1,000 at a cost of $ 15 per day
Authorization will be obtained for all insurance excess.
Drivers over 25 taking excess reduction an imprint will be taken but not charged to your account.
BREAKDOWN
All our motor homes have 24/7 Automobile Association roadside breakdown assistance – phone 0800 734 543. In most cases this will get you on your way again; if not then a tow will be arranged to a place of repair (we pay for this). In the event of accident or mechanical problems the hirer should contact the rental company as soon as possible.
Repairs with a cost of up to $80 may be made without authorisation and will be reimbursed, as long as receipts are available and the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Any cost above $80 will require prior approval. Phone 0800 86 8614, during office hours.
No responsibility will be accepted for accommodation charges, missed connections, meals or out-of-pocket expenses resulting from a breakdown or accident. Due to ever increasing bookings for our motor homes especially during peak demand periods we may not be able to provide a replacement vehicle. Our liability extends only to a refund of rental charges, for any days of loss of vehicle usage caused by accident or mechanical breakdown.
Please note that there will be a callout charge for non mechanical (driver related) such as locking keys in car, running battery flat, running out of fuel, getting vehicle bogged.
OTHER CONDITIONS OF HIRE
Read this carefully:
The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The company’s Rental Agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, or campers not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. These conditions cannot be varied or altered or waived by any employee, agent or representative of the company or by anyone providing services or facilities. The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the company’s directors or management.
